Announcement about Family Weekend
January 13, 2022
Dear Bronco Families,
We love having students back on campus. If your student has not yet returned, we look forward to seeing them by January 31. While COVID-19 -- and most recently the surge in the highly contagious Omicron variant -- has temporarily impacted how we go about our campus life, we remain committed and engaged in your students’ learning, well-being and overall Santa Clara experience.
Because of the unpredictability of COVID-19 and the continued rise in cases in Santa Clara County, coupled with the large number of visitors who traditionally participate in Family Weekend events, we have come to the necessary decision to transition University-sponsored Family Weekend events to a virtual format over several weeks in February and March. That means that rather than in-person gatherings on campus to discuss topics such as studying abroad, career development, health and wellness, and diversity, equity and inclusion, those events and conversations will move to this virtual series. A preliminary calendar for our Virtual Family Engagement Series is now available, with additional information and instructions for registration coming soon.
Should you still wish to visit your student over the traditional Family Weekend -- or any other time -- you are very welcome! Please feel free to explore our beautiful campus, participate in public events (please stay up to date as calendars are frequently changing due to the impact of COVID-19), and explore the broader Bay Area. But please be advised there will be no formal in-person University family programming that weekend.
We are doing our very best to keep our campus open by following all county and state orders (including mandatory masking indoors), requiring vaccines and boosters, limiting indoor in-person gatherings, and continuing to offer robust student learning, programming and services with modifications designed to help slow the spread. We ask everyone to continue to follow our health and safety protocols. To learn more, please visit Prepared SCU.
While COVID-19 has certainly caused us to temporarily adjust some of our long-standing and beloved traditions, it won’t dampen our spirits or how we support and engage with one another. We are excited for our coming conversations during the Virtual Family Engagement Series, and with hope and joy are preparing for other beloved SCU traditions, including celebrating our soon-to-be-graduating seniors.
