Being a global university means recognizing the many holidays and cultural traditions important to students, faculty, and staff in our community. Global Engagement shares campus announcements about global holidays on a regular basis and we encourage other departments across SCU to incorporate global holidays into their curricular and co-curricular events.
Our holiday announcements expand cultural literacy and global awareness across campus, while recognizing many members of our community. Many of the holidays we highlight are celebrated among SCU’s large and diverse international student community. See where SCU's international students are from on our By the Numbers page. We connect global holidays, on-campus holiday events, and holiday events in Santa Clara, San Jose, and the Bay Area. As well, we are responsive to feedback that we hear from students, faculty, and staff about global holidays that are meaningful to them, and consider sharing those personal, individual narratives within our campus community. Examples of holidays we have recognized include Dia de los Muertos, Holi, Lunar New Year, Nowruz, Ramadan, and more.
Many departments, programs and student organizations across SCU recognize and participate in global holidays and events. Thank you to all students, faculty, and staff in our community who celebrate global holidays and traditions and contribute to our global SCU community.
Is there a global holiday you would like to see featured? Fill out our Google Form and let us know why it is important to you and how you celebrate it. We will consider including new international holiday suggestions in our plan for the next academic year.
