Sam Curran recently graduated from Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon. At Jesuit he spent a summer as a foreign exchange student in Valencia, Spain where he studied language and culture as well as serving in the community. Sam also volunteered at the KINO Border Initiative in Nogales, Mexico where he served and worked with refugees seeking asylum in the United States, as well as recent deportees. He continued his work from this trip at the Hurtado center in Portland where he worked with members of the Hispanic community preparing for the citizenship test. He was also a member of the teen board for northwest charity Water1st, a nonprofit whose mission is to unite people in the fight for global clean water. During his time at Jesuit, Sam was elected to Student Government, and was a leader on his schools’ varsity mock trial team. Sam ran varsity cross country and track, where the highlight of his running career was competing with his team at the national championship for high school cross country, where his team placed 17th in the country at NXN. Sam was a member of the National Honors Society, and Spanish National Honors Society. Sam is extremely grateful to have been honored as a Johnson Scholar and plans on majoring in Finance and Spanish, with a minor in data analytics. He is extremely excited to be attending Santa Clara University and all the next four years has to offer.
