James D. Farwell '66, is one of the founding members of the Santa Clara Rowing Programs. He acted as head coach of both men's and women's rowing teams for more than 20 years. As a rower and head coach in 1965, Farwell had an undefeated inaugural season. He is the namesake for the James D. Farwell Award. This award is given annually to one female and one male senior from the sports of cross country, golf, rowing, softball, tennis, track and water polo who best combine academic and athletic excellence. James Farwell was inducted into the Santa Clara University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 for his contributions to the programs.
