In 1976 Kurt Rambis was the WCC Freshman of the Year. That was just the beginning of Rambis’s long outstanding basketball career. He scored 1,736 points as a Bronco, becoming Santa Clara’s all-time leading scorer. He is also the second all-time leading rebounder. In 1980 Kurt was named the WCC Player of the Year and and then drafted by the New York Knicks in the 3rd round (58th pick) of the 1980 NBA Draft. After playing one season for the AEK Athens of the Greek League and winning the Greek Cup, Rambis was waived by the Knicks and signed to the Los Angeles Lakers. This was quite possibly the best thing that could have happened to young Kurt Rambis, considering he joined Magic Johnson and a dynasty known as the “Showtime Lakers.” Rambis won 4 championships with the LA powerhouse. After playing for 14 years, Rambis decided to continue with the NBA in a different capacity. He assumed multiple head and assistant coaching positions and won two more NBA Championships with the Lakers in 2002 and 2009.
