As coach of Santa Clara Baseball for 15 years, Sal Taormina, led the Broncos to a 511-249 winning record. Taormina’s career is defined by 6 Conference championships, 5 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, and 3 straight second-place finishes in the West Coast Conference. In 1972 Taormina was named WCC Coach of the Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, Bronco Baseball sent 12 athletes to play ball at the professional level. Five of Taormina's athletes received All-American accolades and another four recognition as WCC Athlete of the Year. However, Taormina’s coaching career at Santa Clara did not stop in the dugout. Taormina acted as head coach of Men’s Soccer from 1967-1971. During which time the Broncos established themselves as competitors on and off the field with 22 overall wins and an Academic All-American Award.
