Kimya Sabzbalouch-i-bam ‘15 follows a career in mental health.

Kimya Sabzbalouch-i-bam graduated from SCU in 2015 and is currently earning a PsyD at Cal Lutheran with the goal of pursuing a career in mental health. She writes:

“My experience as a psychology major at SCU helped set the framework for my future clinical and academic experiences in the field. After graduation, I took a few years before applying to graduate schools in order to gain further psych experience. My roles after graduation included working as an Americorp Team Member at City Year and working as a Mental Health Counselor at Seneca Family of Agencies. Both of these roles allowed me to directly put into use my psychology degree and gain first-hand experience working with youth regarding social emotional skills and crisis management. Gaining a solid understanding of basic psychological processes in introductory classes at SCU helped set the framework for my future more in depth classes regarding clinical applications of concepts.

Working as a research assistant in Dr. Kathryn Bruchmann’s Social Psychology lab helped me develop skills around research, coding, presentation, and article analysis – all of which have been critical to my success in my current graduate program. Dr. Bruchmann also provided amazing mentorship throughout my time at SCU and during my graduate application process. The rigorous education and support I received in my undergrad classes have set me up for direct success in my current doctorate PsyD level classes at Cal Lutheran, and I am grateful to have been a Bronco!”
