Santa Clara University Named to Best Online Master's in Education Programs

Santa Clara University School of Education and Counseling Psychology’s Online Master of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential Program has earned a spot in the “Best Online Master’s in Education Programs” category in the U.S. News & World Report rankings in its first time being reviewed.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., January 27, 2026- Santa Clara University School of Education and Counseling Psychology’s Online Master of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential Program has earned a spot in the “Best Online Master’s in Education Programs” category in the U.S. News & World Report rankings in its first time being reviewed.  

In its inaugural year of eligibility, the program ranked:

  • #59 overall nationwide - Top 20%
  • #2 in California
  • #1 in the Bay Area

Santa Clara’s Online Master’s of Teaching and Teaching Credential Program has played a growing role in expanding access to teacher education across California and helping address the state’s ongoing teacher shortage. Since adding an online format in 2023, the program has significantly broadened its geographic reach across the state. In 2022, enrolled students came from six California counties. Today, the program has served students from more than 23 counties across the state, enabling aspiring teachers to pursue their credentials without relocating or leaving their local communities.

The recognition marks a significant milestone for the program and underscores Santa Clara University’s continued commitment to academic excellence and the preparation of highly effective educators.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate higher education programs based on factors such as faculty excellence, student engagement, services and technology, and peer reputation. The program’s strong debut places Santa Clara University among leading institutions offering online graduate programs in teaching.
