Assistant Professor
Dr. Zainab Hosseini builds evidence-based psychological interventions for youth impacted by chronic adversities, with a special interest in supporting immigrant and refugee adolescents and young adults. She has over a decade of experience addressing issues of cultural, contextual, and spiritual fit in intervention science. Through a decolonial lens, her work guides practitioners to prioritize community wisdom and lived experiences when determining the core components of psychological interventions. She also uses mixed methods and longitudinal field experiments to rigorously test intervention effectiveness.
Dr. Hosseini is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with a PhD in Developmental and Psychological Sciences from Stanford University, an MSW from the University of Michigan, and a clinical fellowship in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. She was a National Institute of Mental Health T32 Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford’s Department of Psychology and has consulted with international organizations such as the World Bank and Save the Children. At Santa Clara University, she teaches courses such as CPSY 245: Community Mental Health.
