OUR PATHWAY
In addition to earning a Master of Arts in Teaching, MATTC private school pathway candidates also fulfill the coursework required to apply for a California state preliminary teaching credential. Private school pathway candidates are eligible to pursue a preliminary multiple-subject credential for teaching in primary (typically K-6) classrooms, or a preliminary single-subject credential for teaching mathematics, social studies, science, World Language Spanish or English language arts in secondary (6-12) classrooms. All private school pathway candidates must teach at a California WASC accredited private school in order to be eligible for the program. In addition to completing MATTC coursework, private school pathway candidates must have a record of successful teaching in private schools before being eligible to petition for the preliminary credential.
Note: it is the teacher candidates responsibility to secure an prviate school teaching position.
Private School Pathway MATTC candidates take the same 1- or 2-year course sequence with the exception that all practicum classes are 2 units.
