In my current position at Stanford’s School of Medicine, the skills I learned while interning abroad as a Gilman Scholar translated well. My internship abroad broadened my work experience and allowed me to begin my post-graduation job with confidence.

As a first-generation student on a path to becoming a therapist, my experience as a Gilman Scholar showed me that I am capable of accomplishing my dreams. I volunteered for an organization called Nightline, a listening helpline for university students in London, when I was studying abroad.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know whether I get the Pell Grant or if I am Pell-eligible?
Check your SCU Financial Aid Award for a Pell Grant. Also, check with the Financial Aid Advisors by emailing OneStop@scu.edu
If I receive a Gilman Scholarship, will that impact my university financial aid package?
It may, depending upon your aid package. The SCU Financial Aid Office has federal, state and institutional guidelines they must follow when awarding financial aid packages. You can only receive financial aid (including scholarships, grants, and loans) up to the total Global Learning program cost. The Gilman scholarship becomes part of your regular financial aid packaging, with the aim of replacing loan eligibility with scholarship funds where possible.

We are very familiar with the Gilman and are accustomed to certifying Gilman applications each quarter.
Where can I find my program information?
Students should utilize the Program Database and the Homepage of their program to gather the information needed to complete the application. If the information for your program is not available yet, you can refer to last year's information. Please email us at globallearning@scu.edu with any questions.
