Increasing SCU’s Global Reach
SCU’s Global Learning department in Global Engagement offers more than 25 Summer Study Abroad programs in 18 countries across the globe.
Summer Study Abroad Programs provide short-term, high-impact academic experiences that strengthen learning outcomes and connect classroom theory to global practice. Summer Study Abroad offers students the flexibility of a shorter program abroad during the summer and contributes to SCU’s Impact 2030 Strategic Priority One: Reach on a Global Scale to increase the numbers of students abroad. By integrating intercultural experiences with academic frameworks, Summer Study Abroad advances SCU’s mission to prepare students to lead in international and intercultural settings.
Other undergraduate summer global opportunities offered through Global Learning in Global Engagement include: Fulbright UK Summer Institutes, Global Internships, and Undergraduate Research Abroad. See all Global Learning opportunities and scholarships.

Application Process at SCU
Applications for 2026-27 abroad open Monday, November 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM PST and close Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:59 PM PST. The application period is for programs abroad during Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Winter/Spring 2027. Applications must be submitted through SCU’s Global Learning Application Portal.
Students may apply for one Summer Study Abroad program. As long as a student meets the eligibility requirements and submits a complete application by the deadline, they will be nominated by SCU to participate. Nominated SCU students also need to submit a Phase 2 application directly to their program, which may accept applications from students from around the U.S. and the world. This means the individual program may have enrollment caps even though SCU does not. It is important for all SCU students, regardless of their participation term, to submit their Phase 2 applications as early as possible.
Students may apply for both Summer Study Abroad and also Study Abroad during the Fall, Winter, Spring.
