    The Offices of Housing and Residence Life look forward to welcoming you to campus this Fall.

    Information for Move-In will be posted during the summer term as details are finalized. All students will receive an email with specific Move-In information prior to their scheduled dates, below:

    Move-In Dates

    • New Student Move-In (First Year & Transfer): Friday, Sept. 18, 2026.
    • Returning Student Move-In (On-Campus and Neighborhood Units): Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026.
    • Move-In continues: Sunday, September 20, 2026 for those with travel conflicts.

Fall Quarter Move-In Dates

  • New Student & Transfer Move-In: Friday, September 18, 2026
  • Returning Student Move-In: Saturday, September 19, 2026
  • Move-In Continues: Sunday, September 20, 2026

Fall Closing Information

Undergraduate residence halls close the Friday following final examinations, while University Villas and Neighborhood Units remain open over winter recess.

Undergraduate Residence Halls close Friday, December 11, 2026 at 9:00PM for winter break. Students may leave belongings in their space, but must turn off all appliances and remove all perishable items before departing from campus. Res-halls re-open Saturday, January 2, 2027 at 9:00AM.

Details about Fall Closing requirements will be provided to students approximately 1 month prior to closing. Undergraduate residence halls close the Friday following final examinations, while University Villas and Neighborhood Units remain open over winter recess.

If needed, based on your finals schedule or travel home, you may submit an extension form to stay in your residence hall until 9:00AM on Saturday, December 12, 2026. If you need to stay beyond 9:00AM on Saturday, December 12, 2026, you will need to make alternative off-campus arrangements.  

The extension form will open approximately 1 month before Closing. All Extension requests must be submitted by 5:00PM on Wednesday, December 2, 2026. To complete the Extension form, please login to your housing portal. 

Extensions are granted to individuals and not by room.

Winter Recess Housing

Housing during the winter recess is offered on a very limited, need-based basis. Students approved to remain on campus will be charged a daily housing rate. Additional details, including the application process and rates, will be shared closer to winter recess.

2026 Undergraduate Move-In Information
  • Winter Quarter

    Incoming students with new assignments will receive check-in information in their assignment confirmation email. You will need to have your confirmation email at the time of check-in.  Returning students will sign in at their residence hall service desk upon arrival. 

    Move-In Dates

    • New Student Move-In: Saturday, January 3 & Sunday, January 4, 2026. 
    • Residence Halls open for Returning Students: Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 9:00AM


    Students are not able to return to campus prior to Saturday, January 3 for any reason. 

Undergraduate Residence Halls close Friday, December 12, 2025 at 9:00PM for winter break. Students may leave belongings in their space, but must turn off all appliances and remove all perishable items before departing from campus. Residence Halls open Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 9:00AM.

Neighborhood Units and University Villas remain open for the full duration of winter break.

Details about Winter Opening will be provided to continuing students approximately 1 month prior to the close of the Fall Quarter.

Continuing students will check-in at their residence hall service desk. 

For all students new to campus for Winter Quarter and moving into their space for the first time, please be sure to fully read your move in and assignment email. You will need to have your confirmation email at the time of check-in. 

You may check in at the Housing Office located within Benson Memorial Center, Office 212. 

  • Spring Quarter

    Incoming students with new assignments will receive check-in information in their assignment confirmation email. You will need to have your confirmation email at the time of check-in.  

    Move-In Dates

    • New Student Move-In: Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 9:00AM - 4:00PM.
    • Residence Halls remain open through the Spring Recess. 


    Students returning from study abroad must contact housing to secure housing prior to Fall Closing. 

Spring Break Housing

During Spring Break at Santa Clara University, residence halls remain open for all students.

The Offices of Housing and Residence Life look forward to welcoming new incoming students this Spring.

All students with new bookings will receive an email with specific Move-In information prior to their scheduled dates, below:

Spring Quarter Move-In Dates

  • Graduate Students: Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 9:00AM - 4:00PM
  • Undergraduate Students: Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 9:00AM - 4:00PM

For all students new to campus for Spring Quarter and moving into their space for the first time, please be sure to fully read your move in and assignment email. You will need to have your confirmation email at the time of check-in.

You may check in at the Housing Office located within Benson Memorial Center, Office 212.

Returning Students

Students are not required to vacate their spaces during the Spring Break and may stay throughout the break or return to campus at any time.

What to do if your access card is not working?

Get a new phone or your access card not working? The Access Card Office will mirror check in hours. They will be able to assist with all new phone mobile credential concerns or with printing a new card for you!

Spring 2026 Housing Contract Extensions: The Spring extension sign-up form will open on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 9:00AM and will need to be submitted by Wednesday, June 3, at 5:00PM. Students who wish to sign up for a Housing contract extension, please fill out the extension form found in your housing portal via MySCU under Applications.

  • Summer Housing: Students who have applied for Summer Housing with a June 15, 2026 booking date will transition to Sobrato Hall on June 15, 2025 and do not need to sign up for a Housing Contract extension.
  • Villas & NUs: University Villas and Neighborhood Units remain open through 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Students do not need to sign up for a Housing Contract extension. Students who are not participating in graduation activities are asked to move out within 24 hours of their last scheduled final examination.

  • Travel Extension: Extend your Housing contract through 9:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2026 if you live more than 120 miles from campus OR you have a scheduled final examination after 4:00pm on Thursday, Jun. 11, 2026

  • Graduation Extension: Extend your Housing contract through 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 14, 2026 if you have a family member who is a 2026 SCU graduate and is attending commencement events OR you will be assisting with Commencement events (Grad Bash, Commencement, Mass, Dining, etc.)

Move-Out Spring 2026

The Housing Contract contracted periods ends following the final examination period for all students each Spring Quarter/Semester. All residents are required to move out within 24 hours of their last final, and no later than their building close date.

Undergraduate Residence Halls close on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 9:00PM

  • All residents are required to move out within 24 hours of their last final, and no later than their building close date. Please review the undergraduate final exam schedule and finalize travel arrangements as early as possible.
  • All students will receive an email with specific Move-Out information prior to the end of the Housing Contract contracted period end date.

  • Summer Sessions

    Summer housing at SCU is offered to current students enrolled in summer school courses, involved in campus programs, or with an on campus or local job or internship. 

    All students starting summer sessions on June 15 will receive an email with specific Move-In or transition information prior to their scheduled start. All other students will receive Move-In specifics in their assignment confirmation email. 

    Move-In Dates

    • Summer Housing begins (incoming students): Monday, June 2026, at 9:00AM. 
    • Summer Housing transition (current on-campus residents): Monday, June 2026, at 9:00AM. 

    In order to apply for on-campus summer housing, residents must stay a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks. Move-In dates begin Mondays at 9:00AM at Housing Services, Benson Memorial Center, 212. 

Students will indicate all weeks they wish to stay within summer housing. Summer housing requests for less than 4 weeks will not be accommodated:

  • Week 1: Monday, June 15 – Sunday, June 21
  • Week 2: Monday, June 22 – Sunday, June 28
  • Week 3: Monday, June 29 – Sunday, July 5
  • Week 4: Monday, July 6 – Sunday, July 12
  • Week 5: Monday, July 13 – Sunday, July 19
  • Week 6: Monday, July 20 – Sunday, July 26
  • Week 7: Monday, July 27 – Sunday, August 2
  • Week 8: Monday, August 3 – Sunday, August 9
  • Week 9: Monday, August 10 – Sunday, August 16
  • Week 10: Monday, August 17 – Sunday, August 23
  • Week 11: Monday, August 24 – Sunday, August 30
  • Week 12: Monday, August 31 – Thursday, September 3*

*Summer Housing closes on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 9:00PM. Summer housing is not available after this date, as Sobrato Hall must undergo preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Summer housing at Santa Clara University is available to current students who are enrolled in summer school courses, participating in campus programs, or working in an on-campus or local job or internship.

Students must stay a minimum of four consecutive weeks to be eligible for summer housing.

Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee a housing assignment or a specific room type. Housing is assigned based on the following priority order:

  • Summer Session: Students enrolled in classes during Undergraduate summer sessions 1 – 6.
  • Pre-season athletes: Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, other athletes confirmed by Athletics.
  • On-Campus Job: SCU students with on-campus jobs, campus program student staff, faculty research assistants, etc.
  • Off-Campus Job: SCU students with off-campus jobs or internships

Due to limited space within summer housing, an application for summer housing does not guarantee an assignment for the summer nor does an application guarantee a specific room type.

Students living in the Neighborhood Units may apply for a University Summer Housing Contract to serve as a "bridge" between their current housing contract and their contract for the upcoming academic year. Those who choose to bridge their contract will be assigned to their current housing space for the next academic year.

Students who are not living in their current housing space for the next academic year will transition into summer housing on-campus in June.
