President Kevin O'Brien, S.J. welcomes invitations to attend university events and represent the university at community events. This page will also house follow-up materials from various campus events such as town halls.

    

  • Before requesting the President's attendance at an event, please obtain pre-approval from the respective Vice President.
  • Once approved by the respective Vice President, complete the Participation Request Form and submit at least four weeks prior to the date of the event. Submission of the request to the Office of the President is not a confirmation of the President's attendance at the event.
  • A staff member from the Office of the President will notify the requester whether the President is able to attend and will provide a briefing form for the requester to complete and submit to the Office of the President.   

For events with external organizations, please contact the Office of the President at (408) 554-4100.

 

For any confirmed events that the President is attending, President's Office staff will provide a briefing form to complete and submit four weeks prior to the event.

Kevin O’Brien, S.J., has served as the 29th president of Santa Clara University since July 2019. A former practicing attorney, Fr. O’Brien brings to Santa Clara extensive experience in leadership at Jesuit universities. For eight years, he served at Georgetown University, including five years as vice president for mission and ministry. Before becoming president, he served as dean of Santa Clara’s Jesuit School of Theology, an international center for the study of theology and ministry located in Berkeley. He has served on the boards of four Jesuit universities—Fordham University, Seattle University, Marquette University, and Boston College.

In 2011, Fr. O’Brien published The Ignatian Adventure, Experiencing the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius in Daily Life, an award-winning book that has sold more than 45,000 copies and has been translated into three languages. He writes and speaks in the areas of Jesuit spirituality, higher education, and Catholic social thought. Fr. O’Brien has developed a robust social media presence on InstagramFacebook and Twitter.
