University leadership is comprised of the Board of Trustees, Chancellor, and the President's Cabinet. The Cabinet serves as an advisory board to the President on matters of strategic importance and on issues as requested by the President.
Julie Sullivan is a proven leader in Catholic higher education and an internationally recognized scholar in accounting, finance, and taxation. She joined Santa Clara in 2022, previously serving as president of the University of St. Thomas where she has created dynamic academic programs and championed social innovation. Sullivan is the first layperson and woman president in Santa Clara University's history.
Vice President for Mission and Ministry
Alison M. Benders, an experienced educator and theologian, is SCU's first vice president for mission and ministry.
Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
T. Shá Duncan Smith, a highly experienced diversity educator and leader, guides and shapes the University’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.
Chief of Staff
Molly McDonald serves as chief of staff and advises the president on University matters as well as external matters.
Dean, Jesuit School of Theology
Ordained to the priesthood in 1993, Dean Mueller has worked in Jesuit educational institutions at every level, from serving in elementary schools to teaching graduate students, in North America, Europe, and Africa. As dean of JST, he is excited to form the next generation of lay and ordained ministers and to address the changing needs of the global Church.
Interim General Counsel
John M. Ottoboni, Interim General Counsel, oversees a wide range of legal matters related to the University. He also serves as special advisor to the Board of Trustees. John joined Santa Clara University in 2007. Prior to coming to the University, John was a partner and founding member of the firm Ferrari, Ottoboni, Caputo & Wunderling LLP. He served as outside General Counsel to Santa Clara University while at the firm for approximately five years.
Chief Information Officer
As the University’s Chief Information Officer, Robert C. Owen is the principal member of the University’s executive team responsible for strategizing and implementing innovative uses of technology to strengthen the University’s position as a leading institution of higher education.
Dean, College of Arts and Sciences
Versed in bringing together scholars from disparate disciplines, Daniel Press creates innovative interdisciplinary collaborations among the faculty. His experience in both leading and serving positions him to expand upon the vision of the College and to engage faculty and staff in achieving its goals.
