Santa Clara University Equestrian Team

Currently the Equestrian Team is not active. If you are interested in this sport and willing to help bring the program back to it's former standing, please reach out to the Assistant Director for Club Sports Kathryn Hutchings at krhutchings@scu.edu or clubsports@scu.edu.

The Santa Clara University Equestrian Team typically consists of 15 to 20 both competing and non-competing members riding in Hunt Seat Equitation. Our members camaraderie is based on a shared passion for equestrianism, regardless of their level of experience. We provide our riders with a quality riding program to develop their skills and prepare them for the competition ring. The team facilitates collaborative alumni relations through an established network of equestrian resources.

Santa Clara competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. IHSA competitions are based on catch riding, where riders draw a horse that has been provided from the hosting school. The IHSA competition style promotes riders from of all skill levels, to compete individually and as teams at regional, zone, and national levels. Riders are placed in divisions ranging from beginning Walk Trot to Open Fences based on previous show experience. The team travels to schools within the Zone 8 Region 1 area for competition. Other schools within our region include Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, Cal State - Monterey Bay, Stanford University, Sonoma State University, University of California at Berkeley, University of California at Davis, University of California at Santa Cruz, and University of Nevada at Reno.
