SS.R.20222023.1 – Statement of Support for ASG’s Resolution Urging the Observance of Indigenous People’s Day as a University Holiday (Staff Senate approved by a vote of 21-2-1 (Y-N-A), resolution forwarded to the Benefits Committee, Staff Affairs Committee, University Coordinating Committee, Associated Student Government, SCU community, Board of Trustees, and administrators listed in resolution.)
The Staff Senate strongly supports ASG’s Resolution Urging the Observance of Indigenous People’s Day as a University Holiday, and strongly urges the Administration to honor our Indigenous land, colleagues, and students of diverse tribal affiliations and backgrounds and observe Indigenous People’s Day as an ongoing University holiday in support of the SCU Native Community’s recognition of Indigenous contributions and resilience.

SS.R.20212022.1 – Observe Juneteenth as a University Holiday (Staff Senate approved by a vote of 13-0-1 (Y-N-A), resolution forwarded to SCU community, Board of Trustees, and administrators listed in resolution.)
The Staff Senate strongly urges the Administration to honor SCU's Black and African-American colleagues and students, and observe Juneteenth as an ongoing University holiday in support of the SCU Community’s recognition and celebration of the end of slavery in America.

SS.R.20202021.1 – Support for Staff Affairs Recommended Changes to Policy 307-Telecommuting (Staff Senate approved by a vote of 22-0-2 (Y-N-A), resolution forwarded to the Administrator, Staff Affairs Committee and UCC.)
The Staff Senate endorsed the recommendations set forth by the Staff Affairs Committee and urged Human Resources to revise Policy 307 in accordance with the Staff Affairs Committee's recommendations and to put in place information sessions, supervisor training, technology training for staff, and staff-wide communication to encourage a flexible, empowered culture that is positive about the possibility of remote work.

ADDENDUM TO SS.R.20192020.1: Resolution to Equalize Informal Retirement Benefits Between Faculty and Staff (Implemented into the Staff Policy Manual)
The Staff Senate assembly proposed a staff retirement definition for adoption into the Staff Policy Manual. The cabinet approved the final version of the policy on June 21, 2021. Policy 624: Staff Retiree Informal Benefits is now included in the Staff Policy Manual.

SS.R.20192020.1: Resolution to Equalize Informal Retirement Benefits Between Faculty and Staff (Implemented into the Staff Policy Manual)
The Staff Senate assembly seeked to amend the SCU Staff Policy Manual to reflect and extend the same informal privileges and benefits afforded by Faculty to all retired SCU employees, regardless of Faculty or Staff designation. The cabinet approved the final version of the policy on June 21, 2021. Policy 624: Staff Retiree Informal Benefits is now included in the Staff Policy Manual.

SS.M.20162017.01: Review Staff Representation on University Committees (approved in 2016-17)
Motion for a request of a task force to ensure equitable staff representation in all SCU governance committees and groups and to ensure staff are from a diverse set of campus offices.

  1. The Staff Senate recommends that UCC review and propose an increase and diversification of staff representation in all University Governance Committees.
  2. The Staff Senate recommends that the final proposal be communicated to the University Coordinating Committee (through Staff Affairs).

SS.R.20162017.2: Full Market Equity for Staff (approved in 2016-17)
The Staff Senate recommends the University Budget Council use full implementation of Market Equity on the compensation figures of Santa Clara University Staff.

SS.M.20162017.3: Development of Staff Housing Options (approved in 2016-17)
The Staff Senate recommends for Staff Affairs to create a task force to develop Staff Housing assistance options.

SS.M.20162017.4: Child Care Alternative Opportunities (approved in 2016-17)
The Staff Senate recommends for Staff Affairs to create a task force to identify alternative opportunities for childcare and after school benefits.
