As a reminder, some Open Sessions are only 20 minutes long, so you can choose to attend two different sessions. We can’t wait to welcome you and show you around, Go Broncos!

Academic Overview - College of Arts & Sciences + Natural Sciences Deep Dive

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit on campus and offers areas of study in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. This session will provide a general overview of the College, touching on academic and extracurricular opportunities for students, followed by a deeper dive into the academic opportunities for those interested in studying the natural sciences – biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, engineering physics, environmental studies and sciences, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, and public health.

Academic Tour - College of Arts and Sciences - Performing Arts: Music Tour 

The Music and Dance Facility is the home of SCU’s Music Department with fabulous studio and rehearsal spaces. It includes the beautiful Music Recital Hall, an intimate and elegant space where many student concerts take place. The building also houses SCU Presents, the performing arts center on campus that promotes shows, concerts, and social justice events.

Join the Department of Theatre and Dance for a tour of their facilities while engaging in a discussion about opportunities in the department. Tour stops include Mayer Theatre—SCU’s largest performance facility; the Rehearsal Hall, scene and costume shops, backstage dressing and makeup rooms, the Green Room, Fess Parker Studio Theatre, classrooms, and the Dance studios.

When we think about what our students are going to study at SCU, we often focus on their majors of choice. But the Core Curriculum has just as much of an impact on their course selection by providing the breadth necessary to complete a meaningful, well-rounded Jesuit education. Academic Tour - College of Arts and Sciences - Creative Expression: Art & Art History Tour 

Take a tour of the Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History Building to get a glimpse into the studio classrooms that are used for painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, basic ceramics and digital art. You won’t want to miss the beautiful hanging glass sculpture called the Persian and Horn Chandelier by Dale Chihuly in the lobby of Dowd, and after the tour take a walk through the Landscapes of Survivance exhibition in the Art and Art History Gallery.

Join the Communication Department for a tour of the digital cinema production center where you will get an opportunity to see where students produce, direct, and edit their films. The production space includes state-of-the-art editing bays running industry-leading Avid software and a studio with the latest cameras and lighting gear alongside traditional film equipment.

Open Session - My First Year Experience on Campus Panel (11:00-11:20AM ; 11:30-11:50AM)

This event is designed to provide prospective students with a firsthand look into the lives of our current SCU students during their transformative first year. Our student panelists from the Multicultural Center will share candid insights, including personal triumphs, challenges, achievements, and growth. Their stories will showcase the vibrant and supportive SCU community and offer valuable perspectives to those considering joining our university. Whether you attend one or both panels, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the SCU experience and what it's like to embark on this exciting journey.

Open Session - Ciocca Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Instilling an Entrepreneurial Mindset  (11:00-11:20AM ; 11:30-11:50AM)

Ciocca Center is a campus-wide interdisciplinary center responsible for research, course development and student activities that help students learn an entrepreneurial mindset, including empathy for the customer, viewing problems as opportunities, cultivating a tolerance for risk, and developing an overall awareness of value creation. Ciocca Center also sponsors a series of programs to help students learn how to start their own venture. In this session, meet Chris Norris, Executive Director of Ciocca Center, who will describe Ciocca Center programs.

Open Session - Immerse Yourself in Social Justice Action Across the World! - Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education (11:00-11:20AM ; 11:30-11:50AM)

The Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education provides opportunities for the Bronco community to deepen their understanding of social justice issues through Accompaniment and Solidarity. From Immersion trips, Arrupe Engagement, Fellowship, and more, students can experience the true meaning of a Jesuit Education and become people for and withe others to bridge differences and catalyze meaningful change towards a more equitable, sustainable world.

Academic Tour College of Arts and Sciences - Natural Sciences Tour 

The Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation (SCDI) is SCU’s newest academic building. Opened in the fall of 2021 and shared with the School of Engineering, this state-of-the-art building is home to many of our natural science departments, including Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Environmental Studies and Sciences, Neuroscience, and Physics. On this tour, you will see some of our lab spaces and classrooms, and will get the chance to talk to faculty conducting research with current undergraduate students. Note: This tour will focus on departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. The School of Engineering is also conducting tours of the building that will be Engineering-focused.

Dr. Lee Panich, Chair of the Department of Anthropology, will offer a walking tour focused on the Indigenous history of the Santa Clara University campus. The tour will consider the precontact landscape and Native people's experiences at Mission Santa Clara, as revealed by archaeological research, historical documentation, oral histories, and Ohlone community knowledge.

The Imaginarium+WAVE is an advanced visual and computation computing facility dedicated to mixed reality (virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality), data visualization, digital art, and game design.
