Austin played Baseball for the Broncos from 1963-67. He was a stellar athlete under Sal Taormina. As leading hitter during his senior year, Austin hit nine homers. Two of the home runs were during the annual game against the Giants. The kid from Mesa, Arizona, also lead his team in RBI’s and set an example off the field. His success as a Bronco gave him the chance to play at the next level. Austin signed a Major-League contract with Boston Red Soxs after his last season at Santa Clara.
