Francis Cope was an offensive tackle for Santa Clara from 1934-1938. After college, Cope was drafted to the New York Giants. Cope went on to play 8 seasons with the Giants. Cope played in 98 games and started 61 games. He competed in six playoff games for the Giants (1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1944, 1946). During his first season with the Giants, he and his team won the Superbowl in a battle against the Green Bay Packers. In 1938 and again in 1940, Cope was invited to the Pro Bowl. In 1945, he was named First Team All-Pro. Cope is a member of the NFL 1930’s All-Decade team. Francis Cope was inducted into Santa Clara’s Hall of Fame in 1972.
