Stan Patrick, a leader of the Santa Clara basketball team in the early 1940s, led the Bronco frontcourt before going overseas to fight in World War II. Upon his return, Patrick finished his college career in Illinois before a long career in the National Basketball League, winning the 1947 NBL Championship with the Chicago American Gears. While at Santa Clara, Stan Patrick’s roommate was future Nevada Governor Paul Laxalt.
