Bill Prentice was a standout football and baseball player for Santa Clara in the 1940s. While he excelled on the baseball diamond, his real calling as an athlete was football. Polk was drafted to play defensive back for the Green Bay Packers in the 20th round of the 1945 NFL Draft.  After his NFL career, Prentice returned to Santa Clara to be head coach of the 1952 and 1953 Bronco Baseball teams. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1973.
