Amanda Quantz joined USM in 2011, and holds a B.A. Religious Studies from the University of San Diego, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School; and a Ph.D. from the University of St. Michael’s College (Toronto). A theology professor at the University of St. Mary where she manages the Pastoral Ministry Program, Quantz also teaches for the GPPM.
Her teaching interests focus on the Christian Tradition, specifically through an examination of art, worship, ritual and experience. Her academic interests span the Middle Ages, Eastern Christianity, Christology, Dante’s Divine Comedy, religious art and the theory and practice of spiritual care.
She has published a number of articles and book translations, and recently completed eight articles for the Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization (2011), as well as her 2020 book, Radical Hospitality for a Prophetic Church (Lexington Books).
Quantz received her pastoral training as a chaplain at in an inner-city hospital in San Francisco. She is a past president of the American Theological Society
