Sofia Perrone ‘25 Volunteering Abroad in Italy

This past summer I had the memorable opportunity of participating in a program with VoluntarItaly where I spent three weeks working at a summer camp in Italy. I volunteered in Volta Mantovana located in the region of Lombardy. I got incredibly lucky with my host family and they were a huge part of what made my experience so special! The host daughter and I would bike to the camp each day where we would meet with her friends, fellow volunteers our age, to prepare for days filled with games, an hour of prayer, and time at the pool. When we weren’t at the camp I had the opportunity to visit Milan, Florence, and Verona - the home of Romeo & Juliet! I was able to practice my Italian every single day and definitely felt an improvement in my proficiency by the end of the trip. I have nothing but high praise for my experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested in an incredible opportunity to be involved in a community outside of your own. I am more than happy to answer any questions about my experience so please do not hesitate to reach out! My email is Sperrone@scu.edu.
