First Year Immersions & Excursions

This webpage was updated on June 13, 2025.

First Year Immersions & Excursions are opportunities for first year students to engage early with SCU faculty, staff, classmates, and upperclassmen through a series of on-campus immersion experiences and off-campus excursions prior to the start of and during the early half of the fall quarter of their first year of college.

Overview

First Year Immersions & Excursions allow first year students to form a cohort with a subset of classmates that participate together in deeply engaging experiences on and off campus led by faculty, staff, and upperclassmen. Each opportunity includes conversation and contemplation components to introduce first year students to a hallmark of a Jesuit education, i.e. reflective discernment.

Each opportunity is linked to faculty, staff, and student organizations who are considered leaders in the associated topic or content area. As such, these faculty, staff, and student leaders develop and lead the activities that comprise the opportunity which would include facilitated discussions and reflection exercises.
