How would you define your international education experience?

  • Study Abroad Student

What was your international education experience like?

I spent my Junior Year Abroad as an undergraduate in France. It was an amazing experience that opened me up to so many different perspectives. I studied in Paris during the academic year, and spent six weeks in Dijon living with a family and studying French before the school year began. I spent the summer following my studies working on an organic farm in a remote village in southern central France, which completely immersed me in rural French life.

I was so grateful to be able to live in such different environments in the same country and learn about different facets of French culture. I also traveled to Copenhagen at Christmas time, where I spent the holidays with a Danish friend from college and his family.

What message do you have to share with students and community members about the importance of international education?

International education is so important especially in this world where we must strive to understand each other and find common ground in facing challenges such as the climate crisis and the pandemic. It's more essential than ever to develop and cultivate a global awareness as much as we can, and international education is an excellent way to do this. I encourage students from the U.S. and other countries to interact as much as you can in the SCU community.
