Fall Quarter Study Abroad Peer Advisor

Peer Advisor Overview:

Peer Advisors help guide students in the study abroad process and provide front-line advising to students seeking study abroad opportunities. Peer advisors also participate in outreach activities, and assist with projects and events as needed, including the Abroaden Your Horizons podcast, Global Opportunities Expo, and pre-departure events. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Advising

  • Manage the Peer Advisor appointment calendar through YouCanBook.Me.
  • Meet with students in-person or virtually, as needed.
  • Provide information to prospective study abroad students about SCU’s portfolio of study abroad programs in email advising, virtual chat advising, and other communications.

Events

  • Assist with coordinating study abroad events such as International Education Week, Informational Workshops and Webinars, Global Opportunities Expo, Pre-Departure Orientations, and Re-entry programming.
  • Represent SCU Study Abroad at campus events such as department info sessions, Family Weekend, Preview Days, Transfer Day, etc.

Outreach

  • Encourage other returned study abroad students to participate in study abroad sponsored events.
  • Conduct classroom visits, as requested by faculty.
  • Represent SCU Study Abroad at tabling events.
  • Participate in targeted cohort outreach and resource development (such as BIPOC, STEM, LEAD, etc).
  • Assist study abroad staff in various tasks and projects, as assigned.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Participation in a global program is strongly preferred.
  • Available to work 10 hours per week. Most hours will occur between 8 am and 5 pm M-F, with flexibility needed for occasional evening and weekend events, upon request. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work during the Fall term.

Academic Year Study Abroad Peer Advisor

Global Engagement seeks two Study Abroad Peer Advisors per academic year. Peer Advisors help guide students in the study abroad process and provide front-line advising to students seeking study abroad opportunities. Peer advisors also participate in outreach activities, and assist with projects and events as needed, including the Abroaden Your Horizons podcast, Global Opportunities Expo, and pre-departure events.

  • Publicize study abroad events (electronic bulletin board flyers, email communications, etc.) to appropriate audiences.

Social Media

  • Create social media content and post to SCU study abroad accounts (Instagram, Linkedin, Facebook, Tik Tok).
