John Ifcher teaches courses in microeconomics, the economics of the public sector, the economics of poverty and income inequality, and economic research methods. His recent research focuses on subjective well­being, social preferences, and social welfare programs. One recent paper investigates the impact of positive affect on time preference; another investigates the effect of the Earned Income Tax Credit on happiness. He has published articles in the American Economic Review; the B.E. Journal of Economic Analysis & Policy, the Eastern Economic Journal; Economic Inquiry; Experimental Economics; the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization; the Journal of Happiness Studies; the Journal of Neuroscience; Psychology, and Economics; Poverty, and Public Policy; and the Review of Economics of the Household. John Ifcher received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He also received a M.P.A. degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a B.S. in computer science and psychology from the University of Michigan. He worked for the city of New York as the Senior Advisor to the Parks Commissioner between 1993 and 1998.
