William A. Sundstrom is Professor of Economics at Santa Clara University. He earned his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and his Ph.D. from Stanford University (both in Economics).

He is the author of numerous scholarly publications in economics and economic history. His current research areas include the causes and consequences of poverty and income inequality in the Silicon Valley region, as well as relevant policy responses; the impact of climate change and poverty on food security and wellbeing of smallholder farmers in Nicaragua; and the development and impact of public libraries in the United States.

Professor Sundstrom has taught a wide range of courses in economics, most recently in the areas of data analysis and econometrics, environmental economics, and the economics of race, ethnicity, and gender. He currently serves as the Faculty Director of Undergraduate Business Programs in the Leavey School of Business, and is President-Elect of the Santa Clara University Faculty Senate.

Outside of work, Professor Sundstrom enjoys hiking, gardening with native plants, cooking, tennis, reading fiction, and listening to music of all kinds. He is married and has two adult sons.
