Santa Clara University Hosts a Conversation with Interfaith Leader Eboo Patel

Tackling the complex subjects of religious prejudice, religious pluralism, and the promise of America's interfaith communities, Ebrahim "Eboo" Patel will be the featured speaker April 9 for Santa Clara University's President’s Speaker Series.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.,  April 4, 2014—Tackling the complex subjects of religious prejudice, religious pluralism, and the promise of America’s interfaith communities, Ebrahim “Eboo” Patel will be the featured speaker April 9 for Santa Clara University’s President’s Speaker Series.

The event begins 7:30 p.m. at SCU’s Mayer Theatre on campus, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053.

Patel is the founder and president of Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), a Chicago-based nonprofit building the interfaith youth movement.  IFYC employs 36 people and has a $4.5 million operating budget.  Patel holds a doctorate in the sociology of religion from Oxford University, where he studied on a Rhodes scholarship.  He earned his undergraduate degree in sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He was an inaugural member of President Obama’s inaugural Faith Council; is a regular contributor to the Washington Post, Huffington Post, CNN, and public radio, and speaks frequently about interfaith cooperation on college campuses.  

Patel is the author of Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation.  His newest book is Sacred Ground: Pluralism, Prejudice, and the Promise of America. He will be signing books after the event on April 9.
