Ellery Williams was a great athlete and competitor playing baseball and football in high school where he won many awards. After graduation, he joined the Army where he hoped to become a pilot, yet the war ended before he got the chance. After returning from War, Ellery Williams enrolled at Santa Clara. While at SCU, he was on of the star Broncos that led the team to an Orange Bowl victory over Bear Bryant’s Kentucky Wildcats in 1950. Williams was rated the nation’s top lineman from the Bay area. He was also the top scorer on the team alongside teammate Hall Haynes. After his time as a Bronco, Williams was drafted in 1950 to the New York Giants. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1981.
