Eric Tillman Receives $70,000 award from American Chemical Society

These funds will support Eric's research project "Stereoregular Vinyl Polymer Prepared by Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization."

PI: Eric Tillman
Funder: American Chemical Society (ACS)
Amount:  $70,000

Eric Tillman with the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department has received a $70,000 award from the American Chemical Society.  These funds will support Eric's research project "Stereoregular Vinyl Polymer Prepared by Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization."

The goal of this research is to take advantage of intermolecular interactions between electron rich and electron deficient aromatic faces of monomers to affect both the rate of their polymerization and the stereochemical makeup of the resulting polymer.  To accomplish this, fluorinated monomers and additives will be added to the radical polymerization of styrene and styrenic analogs, while monitoring the effects on both the reaction rate and the characteristics of the polymer chain.
