Can you tell me a bit about your academic background and career history so far?

  • Just finished Ph.D. in lit studies at WSU taught WGST and lit classes. Specialized in contemporary women's and LGBTQ writing, particularly writing of the self (memoir, auto theory, autofiction).
  • Got a master's at Iowa State in English and WGST and taught WGST for a year after graduating.
  • Undergrad--English/creative writing with a minor in History

Did you always plan on teaching? Why did you choose SCU?

  • Didn’t always want to teach, did business first and wanted to open a coffee shop.
  • Heard good things about the staff and students. From multiple people. She says her students have been really engaged so far
  • Opportunity to teach a lot of different classes
  • No matter where she goes WGST students have been generally really great

Is there a certain class or topic of interest you’d love to teach?

  • LGBTQ lit next quarter! Contemp. Women and queer writing is her specialty
  • Angels in America and Zami by Audre Lorde planned for that class, along with some more recent novels and poems.

What is something you wish you knew in undergrad?

  • Didn't take any WGST in undergrad and wishes she knew what they were about. She was politically active but didn't know what they were. Feminism was something people didn't want to take about or admit they were a feminist in 2006. (I would add that this was particular to my community, I'm sure in other places it was different, but there has definitely been a shift in the last 15ish years)

Is there anything else you’d like students to know about you?

  • I love hiking and I’m always up for hiking and camping. Show me your pet pictures!
