Transfer Orientation - August Session Details

Below is important information if you are attending the in-person academic advising and course registration session for new transfer students.

Important: Please remember that you are still required to attend the in-person Transfer Orientation session on September 17. If you do not participate in this session in September, then it may impact your fall classes -- such as having your entire schedule erased so that you have to re-register for classes again.

Additional Information

Items to Bring

  • Water bottle to stay hydrated; there are water fountains and water refilling stations around campus.
  • Laptop or tablet so you can use it during academic advising and course registration; we will have extra laptops available for those who cannot bring their own.

Parking Permit

  • SCU Orientation 2025 (Transfer Session, August 27).
  • If you are driving to campus, please print the parking permit for your session and display it on your vehicle's dashboard when you arrive.
  • Free parking permits will also be provided during check-in.
  • We recommend you park in the North Campus Garage off of Benton Street, between Alviso Street and the Alameda.
  • Once you arrive on campus, Orientation Leaders will guide you from the parking garage to where check-in will be.

Check-In & Check-Out

  • You will be assigned to the morning group or afternoon group; expect an email from the Drahmann Academic Advising & Learning Resources Center prior to this August 27 session.
  • For the morning group, check-in will be from 8:00am – 8:50am with breakfast provided.
  • For the afternoon group, check-in will be from 12:00pm – 12:50pm with lunch provided.
  • A grab-n-go lunch is also provided for the morning group.
  • If you are running late, please contact our office via email at orientation@scu.edu; we are unable to monitor the phone line while an Orientation session is in progress.
  • Please note that if you are running significantly late and we do not receive prior notification, we may have to reschedule your academic advising and course registration session.

Travel Accommodations

  • If needed, students, parents, and other family members are responsible for arranging their own overnight accommodations off campus.
  • If you are still looking for a place to stay, please visit our Travel & Accommodations webpage.

Wireless (Wifi) for Students

  • Name of Wireless Network: eduroam
  • Use this network at any time, even during the academic year.
  • Authenticated (use your SCU login and password).
  • MySCU Portal and services in MySCU Portal are available.

Wireless (Wifi) for Parents & Families

  • Name of Wireless Network: SCU-Guest
  • Not authenticated (no password required - usage agreement check-box).
  • Connection time is limited (8 hours - before prompted to agree to usage terms again).
  • Some SCU services are NOT available (including MySCU Portal).
