Planning Your Travel
Students are required to attend the entirety of their Orientation session. Early departure may impact your ability to register for classes.
For first year students attending Summer Orientation sessions (July):
- When booking air travel arrangements, we recommend that you do not depart from any of the Bay Area airports (SJC, SFO, OAK) earlier than 6:00pm on the second day of your Orientation session.
Early Arrivals & Late Departures
For first year students attending Summer and Fall Orientation sessions (July and September):
- We understand the challenges of planning travel and know that many students need to arrive to Santa Clara the day before their Orientation session and/or depart campus the day after their session.
- If you need to arrive early and/or depart later, please email us at orientation@scu.edu with your request and travel information so we can make arrangements to accommodate your extended stay.
- Students arriving early may check in starting at 4:00pm the day before their Orientation session.
- Students departing later may check out no later than 12:00 noon the day after their session.
On-Campus Housing
First year students attending Sessions 1-6 (July):
- Will stay in one of the campus residence halls.
- Commuter students attending Sessions 1-6 are also expected to stay overnight in the residence halls unless permission is granted to return home for the night.
First year students attending Session 7 (September):
- Will be permitted to move in early into their respective residence halls that they will be residing in for the entire academic year.
- The designated move-in date and time will be communicated to you by the Housing Office.
- This residence hall may be different from the residence hall that students attending Sessions 1-6 stayed in over the summer.
- Commuter students attending Session 7 are expected to return home for the night.
Fall and winter transfer students (September and January):
- If living on campus, transfer students will be permitted to move in early into their respective residence halls that they will be residing in for the entire academic year.
- The designated move-in date and time will be communicated to you by the Housing Office.
Parking Permits
Parking permits will be emailed to all students a few days prior to their Orientation session. There will also be parking permits available upon checking in on your session date.
For parking, it is recommended that you park in the North Campus Garage off of Benton Street between Alviso Street and the Alameda. Please see the links in the above section for a campus map and parking map.

Hotel Discounts & Courtesy Room Blocks
Rooms are limited for each hotel listed below and are available on a "first come, first serve" basis.
In addition to these hotels where we have room blocks, there are many other local hotels to choose from. The difference between our hotel room blocks and rooms at other hotels is that our room blocks have special rates for Santa Clara families.
