Implications for Students

What does this statement mean for writers who visit our center?

Booking a session at The HUB means you are entering a space where we will work collaboratively so you can create texts you are proud of. We focus our sessions on more than just the mechanics of writing and will help you to communicate your ideas through discussions on topic, style, organization, and more. This also means we are not an editing service. Rather, we want to talk to you about your writing and do what we can to help you meet your personal goals.

We are also happy to talk to you about when and how different languages and dialects might serve your purposes best. Though academic writing often requires Standard American English, we know that some writers might prefer to use other dialects, and we welcome discussions about what choices you want to make with your own work. At The HUB Writing Center, we prioritize your autonomy and want to meet you where you are in your writing journey. Ultimately, you are in charge of your own text.

To learn more about our commitment to linguistic justice and to better understand how you may fit into this discussion, please see the “Additional Resources” section below, where we have curated a mix of videos and readings that we hope will answer some questions you have.
