Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer

As a bilingual licensed therapist, much of my career has focused on the relationship between children's mental health and their educational success. My doctoral dissertation explored the educational and emotional experience of Mexican American boys in San Jose. I went on to work with organizations including NASA, Stanford University School of Medicine, Salvation Army, Santa Clara County, many school districts, and a number of major tech companies. I continue to practice therapy in the community, often addressing clients’ challenges related to Silicon Valley’s high pressure for academic and work achievement.

As an educator, I began teaching at SCU in 2012 and I’ve had the honor of working across three departments: Child Studies, Psychology, and Counseling Psychology. I’ve also served as a faculty member and department administrator at Pacific Oaks College. I endeavor to support ongoing children’s mental health efforts through parental outreach in English and Spanish, in-school presentations, teacher training, and as a contributor for Psychology Today.
