Winter 2022 Residency

The Center for the Arts and Humanities welcomes BD Wong, the 2021-22 Frank Sinatra Artist-in-Residence.

BD Wong, returns to Santa Clara for a week filled with drama, music, and fun!

We invite you to join us for the following events as our students and community celebrate the arts. All events are free.

    A Seat at the Table: Stage reading and talkback of a play written by Vicky Pham '23, directed by BD Wong -  Louis B. Mayer Theatre


    Be the first to see and hear this original play reading on stage, under the direction of BD Wong. A Seat at the Table examines the positionality of Asian Americans in the U.S. in the context of racism and anti-Asian violence. Talkback after the show with BD, Vicky, and the cast.

    Take Me to the World: A Recital of Songs by Stephen Sondheim - Music Recital Hall


    A celebration of the composer's musical life and legacy with selections performed by students in Music and Theatre & Dance with BD Wong. Musical Direction by Scot Hanna-Weir, Stage Direction by Jeffrey Bracco, with Wayne Barker, musical arrangement and pianist, a special Sinatra guest.

    Songs from an Unmade Bed - Screening followed by a conversation on Creative Collaboration - Music Recital Hall


    Attendance for this event is limited to SCU students, faculty, and staff due to copyright restrictions.

    BD Wong performs in an adaptation of Songs From an Unmade Bed created during the lockdown phase of the pandemic. He is joined afterward in conversation with videographer Richert Schnorr and musical director Wayne Barker to discuss how artists have found new ways to collaborate, adapt, and create under the conditions of COVID. Moderated by Joanna Thompson, Ph.D., Director, Office for Multicultural Learning.

In addition to the above events open to the public, BD Wong will be visiting classes in the Departments of History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Child Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, and Theatre and Dance.
