Frequency Combs Reveal Hidden Few-Atom Interactions

Lomsadze, Junes, and Yao publish article

Professor Bachana Lomsadze, along with Physics minor Roman Junes ’26 (Electrical Engineering) and Johnason Yao ’28 (Physics), published an article, “Multiatom Dipole-Dipole Correlations in Rubidium Vapor Revealed by Dual-Comb Spectroscopy,” in Physical Review A. The work uses nonlinear dual-comb spectroscopy to reveal spectral signatures arising from interactions among rubidium atoms. They observed signals involving two atoms, as well as more complex features involving three atoms, providing new insight into dipole-dipole interactions, a fundamental mechanism through which atoms and other quantum systems influence one another and give rise to collective behavior.
