Shan Wu

Assistant Professor

Shan Wu earned her Bachelor’s degree in applied physics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2010, and subsequently completed her Ph.D. in physics at Johns Hopkins University in 2017. Her doctoral research delved into the magnetism near electron delocalization transitions in a range of strongly correlated electron systems, including iron-based Mott insulators and Rare-earth Kondo lattice metals. After graduation, she undertook postdoctoral research at the University of California Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, investigating nematicity in unconventional high-temperature superconductors and pressure-induced phases in spin-ladder systems. Her current interest focuses on the magnetic transition metal dichalcogenide systems that exhibit fascinating spintronic properties. As a condensed matter experimentalist, her passions encompass exploring exotic properties in quantum materials with correlated electrons, involving materials synthesis and experiments at cutting-edge national facilities, including neutron scattering, synchrotron X-ray scattering and muon spin relaxation techniques.
