This quarter, the Psychology department welcomed David Ruiz, a Ph.D. student  from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) as part of an exchange program. As an experimental psychologist, David is interested in operant choice behavior and decision making in humans. Using the basic principles of learning, David studies the allocation of human operant behavior to the different reinforcement alternatives using the matching law under laboratory conditions. David has spent his quarter at SCU working with Psychology Professor Matt Bell who is an expert in choice behavior. David and Bell have been working together on research in collaboration with William Baum from UC Davis.

As part of this exchange, Bell also traveled to Mexico City to give a keynote address about the benefits of spaced learning at the XIII UNAM Psychology Conference in October.  We were very happy to welcome David into the Psychology Department this fall, and are excited about a continued relationship with UNAM.
