Thien-Huong Ninh holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Southern California and a BA in History, Ethnic Studies (Asian American Studies), and Southeast Asian Studies from UCLA. Dr. Ninh specializes in the Sociology of Religion, Asian Christianity, Asian American Catholicism, and East Asian New Religious Movements. Among her academic publications, she is the author of Race, Religion, and Gender in the Vietnamese Diaspora: The Chosen People (Palgrave) and co-editor of the Journal of Vietnamese Studies (University of California Press) special issue on “Globalizing Vietnamese Religions”. One of her current projects examines Vietnamese American Catholicism in Silicon Valley (San Jose, CA) and another study investigates the globalization of East Asian New Religious Movements (specifically, Caodaism and Daesoon Jinrihoe).
