It seems cliche to say that one week in another country changed me for the better, but it did. Being able to stand in another's shoes made me feel joy, sorrow, compassion, and love, in ways that I never had before. - Joshua Raymundo

Ecuador is one of the world’s most dynamic and fascinating countries, a land in which incredible natural beauty and rich resources interface with desperate poverty. While in Ecuador, Santa Clara students will be hosted by Rostro de Cristo and be staying at their retreat house within an invasion community. Staying at the retreat house in the community invites participants to enter into a very simple lifestyle that resembles the way in which the local community lives.
SCU students will spend most of their time developing relationships with local families through daily visits and helping out with the community after school programs for gradeschool children. The group will learn primarily about education and healthcare needs in the community. Additionally, the group will also witness the importance of faith and religion in the lives of people living in this community.
Core activities include:
- Visiting community member homes, including those of local entrepreneurs
- Visiting the residential hospital, Damien House
- Assisting and participating in afterschool programs
- Visiting downtown Guayaquil
