Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society, was founded at Marquette University in 1915. The Santa Clara University chapter was established in 1942. Alpha Sigma Nu upholds the Jesuit values of academic excellence and service to the University and the community. Juniors and seniors who are in the top 15 percent of their class and have a demonstrated record of service and loyalty to the Jesuit ideals of education are eligible for membership.

Q: What is Alpha Sigma Nu (ASN)?
As stated by the national website, “Alpha Sigma Nu is the honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities. Founded in 1915, Alpha Sigma Nu is unique among honor societies in that it honors students who not only distinguish themselves in their academic pursuits, but also in their loyalty to the values of their Jesuit education, and service to others. Inductees demonstrate an intelligent appreciation of and commitment to the ideals - intellectual, social, moral, and religious - of Jesuit higher education.”

Q: How am I eligible to join ASN at SCU?
Junior and Senior standing students who rank in the top 15% of their class are nominated by the University administration to be considered for the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honors Society, which includes members from all majors and fields of study. The President of the institution must approve the list of candidates nominated. Q: Who reviews my application?
Student officers, assisted by the faculty advisor, will process and discuss the applications.

Q: Do I need to pay an induction fee?
No, the fee is covered by Santa Clara University.

Q: What is the time commitment?
There will be a maximum of 2 hrs/week.To remain in good standing with ASN, members must attend 1 non-service event and 1 service event per quarter (effective Jan 2022).
