Participation Requirements

Mandatory Courses

The LEAD Scholars Program offers courses that fulfill both LEAD and SCU Core Curriculum requirements.

Students entering as first-year students are required to take ENGL 1A and ENGL 2A in sections with other LEAD Scholars. These courses fulfill the Critical Thinking and Writing (CTW) SCU Core requirement and are four units each. They are also required to take LEAD 1 and 2, our LEAD Seminar courses which introduce new students to SCU. Each of these courses are two units.

Students entering as transfer students are required to take LEAD 101, our Advanced LEAD Seminar, which introduces new students to SCU. This course is two units.

Each student is required to take at least one 2-unit LEAD vocational exploration course. Students who entered as first-year students are required to take this course in their sophomore or junior year. Transfer students are also required to take this course in their junior or senior year. Those students who do not fulfill the participation requirement will have their priority registration suspended.

Program Participation

All first, second, third and fourth year students are also required to participate in one LEAD Scholars Program activities per quarter (3 per year) to maintain a connection to the program and continue their own personal and academic growth. Students can fulfill this requirement by attending or planning a LEAD event, or being a tour guide or panelist for a LEAD-sponsored tour for K-12 students. Please consult with the LEAD staff about other ways to fulfill the requirement. Those students who do not fulfill the participation requirement will have their priority registration suspended and/or removed from LEAD.

If you are studying abroad or are leaving campus for other reasons and would like to waive your participation requirement for the quarter, please also contact Marqus Koranteng at mkoranteng@scu.edu

We also welcome your feedback on the LEAD Scholars Program and ideas for improvement. Please contact our Program Coordinator Marqus at mkoranteng@scu.edu
