Sixth Annual Taleghani Lectureship

Chosen for the Sixth Annual Taleghani Lectureship, Mary Elaine Hegland (Anthropology) delivered the Taleghani Lecture on "Days of Revolution: Aliabad of Shiraz in Iran and in the World in the 20th and 21st Centuries" and the Taleghani Graduate Student Seminar on "Participant Observation in the Iranian Revolution and in the Islamic Republic of Iran: Challenges and Opportunities from 1978 to 2015" at the University of Arizona, Tucson in April. Mary also talked at UC San Bernardino, Georgetown University and Sweet Briar College about "Women, Gender and Sexuality in Aliabad and Iran: Change and Transformation from 1978 to 2015"; "Political Islam: Engagement and Disengagement in an Iranian Community"; and "Religion, Ritual and Change in Aliabad and Iran, 1978-2015" during spring 2016. For academic year 2016-2017, Mary will be located at the National Humanities Center in Research Triangle Park, NC to work on her book about the politics of religion and ritual in Aliabad, Iran.
