Madison Givens '18
“I’m Madison Givens (Classics minor, B.A. History and B.S. Political Science, Class of 2018). Since graduating from Santa Clara, I completed two master’s degrees at Loyola University Chicago — an M.A. in History and an M.A. in Women’s and Gender Studies — and I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in History at the University of Memphis.
My doctoral research focuses on transnational histories of racial governance, settler colonial logics, and the afterlives of empire across the United States, Canada, and Aotearoa New Zealand. Alongside my graduate work, I teach 7th–11th grade World and U.S. History courses, and adjunct as a U.S History professor.
Outside of the classroom, I will be hosting a public history podcast (Women Walked), I also create digital history content under my ‘History/Herstory Queen’ brand, and am currently exploring opportunities as a traveling expert with Smithsonian Journeys.
Thank you for continuing to build such a supportive and connected Classics community — my minor in Classics remains a meaningful foundation in everything I do.”
