Jackie Hendricks

Senior Lecturer

Jackie Hendricks received her Ph.D. in English from Northwestern University in 2013, writing a dissertation that focused on medieval Scottish poets' contentious engagement with English literature. She also received an M.A. from San Jose State University in 2006 while working in the semiconductor industry, and a B.A. from UCLA in 1999. In addition to the texts and history of the Middle Ages, she enjoys studying cultural hybridity and monsterization in literature and popular culture. Her current research looks at zombie-like figures in Middle English literature and how they reflect medieval English views of other cultures, races, religions, and ethnicities.

She teaches Engineering Communications and Critical Thinking and Writing during the school year, and Advanced Writing online during the summer. In her writing classes, she enjoys incorporating popular culture and thinking about how popular entertainment reflects the world we live in. For the engineers, she draws on her background in high tech to help students prepare for their senior capstone theses and the writing they will do in the working world. Her summer students annually contribute articles to a class academic journal, Pop Culture Intersections.
