Marie Pruitt

Marie Pruitt (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Writing Studies in the Department of English at Santa Clara University. Her research interests include technical and professional writing, scholarly writing and journals, digital rhetoric, writing technologies, and genAI refusal.

Her work has been published in College Composition and Communication, Technical Communication Quarterly, the Writing Spaces Assignments & Activities Archive, the FEN Blog, and the Sweetland Digital Rhetoric Collaborative blog. Her mixed-methods research has received numerous awards, including the John Richard Binford Memorial Award for Excellence in Scholarship and the 2026 Kairos Graduate Student and Contingent Faculty Award for Scholarship. She also works as a copyeditor for Composition Studies, the oldest independent academic journal in the field.

In the writing classroom, Pruitt centers collaborative learning and writing, multimodal projects, and accessibility. She enjoys helping students discover, trace, and join academic conversations and teaching students about the different ways people create knowledge in the disciplines.

In 2026, she earned her doctorate in English Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. She is also a proud graduate of Miami University of Ohio (M.A., English & American Literature, 2022) and City University of New York (CUNY) at Brooklyn College (B.A., English, 2018).
