Martin Perez is working with ESS faculty on environmental health issues in Nicaragua and Santa Clara County.

Martin Perez is a senior Environmental Studies and Public Health double major. Martin started working with Chris Bacon as a member of a collaborative research team in the spring of 2016.  In the last 16 months, Martin has helped analyze survey data assessing food and water insecurity in northern Nicaragua as part of a National Science Foundation funded project.  In addition to his research work, Martin has drawn upon his Spanish language skills to transcribe recordings of focus groups and interviews, which will be analyzed to explain vulnerability and resilience in these communities.  Martin also continues as a student research team leader on a project working with Chris Bacon and Iris Stewart-Frey and local community promoters to measure and map air pollution near elementary schools in Santa Clara County.

Martin has done an awesome job merging his Environmental Studies and Public Health majors in an effort to better our community.  Keep up the great work, Martin!
